POLAND GIVES STANDING OVATION FOR NOTTINGHAM
Last Friday the 27th October at Zamek Castle, Poznan Poland a standing ovation was given to members of the Nottingham Arts Theatre who performed a concert of well loved selections from the English stage. The pieces comprised music hall revue sketches and a light-hearted recipe of English musical theatre.
The concert was part of a theatrical exchange between the Arts Theatre and Poznan designed to promote participation in amateur/ community theatre in Poland and Poznan in particular.
The week's programme involved the staging of four performances in schools and community venues in Poznan and working on five theatrical workshops which were also given performance at the same Zamek Castle concert . A party from Poznan will visit Nottingham in the spring of next year and in addition the Arts Theatre will provide support for the creation of a community theatre in the Strodka district of Poznan.
Mr Tomas Kayser Deputy President of the Poznan region speaking after the concert said "When approached I thought the idea of a community theatre would be good for us but I really had no idea what it was. But seeing it tonight and the fun it can bring to both the performer and the community I am totally convinced. We wish to thank Nottingham for this wonderful message and your visit here to us".
Dominic Dobson an Art Theatre member from Papplewick who made the trip as a supporter said "I shall never forget last Friday’s concert. At the end it was so emotional. There was so much bonding up there. To see the Poles and the English of all ages on stage having such fun was unforgettable. When more and more encores were called I wept openly at the sheer joy of it ".
The Arts Theatre are of the view that this continuing venture represents an exciting challenge and opportunity. Anyone wishing to help in the further promotion of this venture are asked to contact the Arts Theatre for further information (info@artstheatre.org.uk)
